The zooarchaeological identification of a ‘Morisco’ community after the Christian conquest of Granada (Spain, early 16th century): sociocultural continuities and economic innovations

Abstract This article presents the results of zooarchaeological analysis an assemblage dating to second quarter 16th century that was discovered on current university campus Cartuja, outskirts Granada (Andalusia, Spain). During Middle Ages, this area largely used for agricultural purposes, including as estates owned by high officials Nasrid dynasty, last Islamicate polity in Iberian Peninsula. The Castilian conquest 1492 brought significant changes area, with construction a Carthusian monastery and transformation surrounding landscape, property structures, different agrarian regimes demolition pre-existing structures.
